Utthara Unni is a young actress who works in malayalam and tamil films. She made her acting debut with the film ‘Vavval Pasanga’. She played the lead lady in the film ‘Edavappathy’. She hosts ‘Valampirishanku’, a telebrands TV promotional program along with her mother Urmila Unni.
Karthikathirunal Utthara Unni Raja aka Utthara Unni was born as the only daughter to Mr. A R Unni and Mrs. Urmila Unni. Her mother is a noted artist, dancer and actress. She graduated in Bsc. Visual Communication from SRM University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She completed her master degree in MA. Communication from MOP Vaishnav College under Madras University. She also holds a degree in BFA. Bharathanatyam from Sastra University.
She received Natyavilasini Award (Nrithyathi Kalakshetram, Bhilai), Natyamayuri (Andhra Pradesh), Nrithyashiromani award (Odisha), Sukumari Amma Memorial award (Mumbai), Padmavati Pratibha Puraskar (Odisha) and the Guru Gopikrishna National award for excellence in Bharathanatyam. Utthara has performed in more than 100 stages throughout India and few international stages.
She runs her own dance academies named Angopanga (Bahrain) and Temple Steps (Mumbai). Utthara has released a Malayalam/Arabic music video ‘Paathirapontheril’.Noted malayalam actress Samyuktha Varma is her cousin.
Utthara started her career in modelling at the age of 16. She appeared in the numerous television ads including Bhima jewelers, Emmanuval silks, SriKumarans and Dhathri real slim oil. Utthara made her acting debut in 2012 through the Tamil film ‘Vavwal Pasanga’. Her malayalam debut was ‘Edavappaathy’ directed by National award winner Lenin Rajendran.
The little Akkosotto of Yodha fame, Sidharth Lama played the male lead, while Manisha Koirala played Utthara’s mother. For her acting brilliance in the film, Utthara won the Kerala State Film Critics award for best debut. For her directorial debut short film ‘Randaam Varavu’, she won various awards.
