Niyas Backer is an actor who is active in malayalam television and film industries. His noted films include ‘Vengalam’, ‘Kudammattam’, ‘Chamayam’, ‘Ishtam’, Gramaphone, Ordinary, Mannar Mathai Speaking 2, Polytechnic, Run Baby Run, and Jawan of Vellimala. He is popular among the television spectators through the comedy series ‘Marimayam’.
Niyas Backer hails from Aluva, Kerala. He is the son of actor late Aboobakker. Niyas did his schooling at G. B. H. S School, Wadakkanchery. His young brother Kalabhavan Navas is also a mimicry artist and actor.
Niyas Backer started his career as a theatre artist. He worked with Mala Aravindan’s Valluvanadan Theatres for two years. He then started doing mimicry shows with his brother Navas under the banner of Cochin Arts. His stint as a mimicry artiste gave him small roles in films. He made his silver screen debut with Bharathan’s ‘Vengalam’. He later went on doing brief roles in the films ‘Kudammattam’ and ‘Chamayam’. He got noticed was ‘Ishtam’ directed by Kamal.
He has acted in more than 35 films, including ‘Gramaphon’e, ‘Ordinary’, ‘Mannar Mathai Speaking 2’, ‘Polytechnic’, ‘Run Baby Run’, ‘Jawan of Vellimala’, ‘Hellelujah’. Niyas played the lead role in the film Manja’. He co-directed ‘Vallatha Pahayan’, a film featuring the entire ‘Marimayam’ team. Niyas is the recipient of the State Television award for the best comedian for the year 2013 for his work in the popular comedy series ‘Marimayam’ aired in Mazhavil Manorama.
