The most-awaited 63rd Nehru Trophy snake-boat race will be held in Alappuzha on 8 August 2015. As a popular snake boat race and a major tourism attraction it is conducted on the second Saturday of August every year in the Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha, the Venice of the East.
16 teams will participate in the race this year, while the The chief guest for this year’s event is Chinese Ambassador to India, Le Yucheng. Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the event at 2 pm on Saturday. The final rounds of the snake-boat race will start at 2:30 pm, while the races will be wrapped up by 5 pm.
The main attraction of the day will be performances by popular musician Stephen Devassy’s Solid Band and Grammy
Award winning violinist Manoj. Those who wish to watch the boat race can book tickets online via Book My Show. Other than purchasing tickets online, you can get tickets form some of the government offices in Alappuzha.
The tickets will be available at Alappuzha KSRTC bus station, District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) office at Boat Jet Road, Tourist Information Centre in Punnamada and Revenue Division Office in Thathampally. Special counters are also set up near the venue. It is estimated that two lakh people including tourists from abroad would reach the racing spot to watch the event.
